The Big Three, the Bailout, and the Holiday Season

At Wolfe Automotive Group LLC, we’re watching the developments in the automotive industry very closely. Even though we have no Ford or Chrysler franchises in our group, we do have four Saturn dealerships: Saturn of Tiffany Springs, Saturn of Olathe, Saturn of Blue Springs, and Saturn of Springfield. While Saturn is a subsidiary of GM and somewhat insulated from the Big Three’s difficulties, what happens to the Big Three affects all automakers and dealerships both directly and indirectly, foreign and domestic.
It’s a huge and extraordinarily complicated issue. While other automakers such as Toyota, Scion, Honda, Saturn, and Acura have been building hybrids and focusing on making innovations on cars, trucks, SUVs and minivans, some say Detroit has lagged behind the curve. People that wanted to lower their carbon footprint, save money on gas, an d reduce our reliance on foreign oil through hybrids and fuel-efficient vehicles, have had little choice but to purchase vehicles we offer such as Toyota, Honda, Scion, Saturn, and Acura models. Saturn offers two great hybrids in their lineup, the Saturn VUE and Saturn Aura, and the new Saturn Astra provides exceptional fuel efficiency at a great price.
We’d like to make it clear that our intent here is not to make light of—or add to—the Big Three’s difficulties. The vast majority of American-made cars are well built by dedicated people whose livelihoods are at stake. No one’s interests are ever served when hard-working people lose their jobs in this or any other economic climate.
